Hauschka is the captivating Düsseldorf-based pianist Volker Bertelmann, who
records on Fat Cat. He channels the spirit of John Cage's prepared piano, opening
up his instrument and playfully performing public operations on its innards using
guitar strings, gaffer tape and other bits of junk in search of unfound colours and
textures. The results are startlingly original and vivid yet immediately accessible.
Eric Satie's mischievous miniatures, Indonesian gamelan and Drukqs-era Aphex
all get a look in.
Hauschka's second album on Fat Cat 'Ferndorf' is out in early September and
coincides with this tour. A true raconteur, his live shows have broad appeal and
receive a rapturous reception where ever he goes. UK appearances include a a
sold out show at London's Union Chapel with Max Richter, as well as
scene-stealing turns at this year's Faster Than Sound and Venn festivals. He has
also toured the US with Múm and in Japan with Colleen.

Jason Molina £10 adv
Jason Molina is an American singer-songwriter, originally from Lorain, Ohio. He first came to prominence performing and recording as Songs: Ohia, both in solo projects and with a rotating cast of musicians. Since 2003, he has recorded either under his own name or with a stable line-up of band members as the Magnolia Electric Co.
"Critics often compare Songs: Ohia to Palace/Will Oldham, and while sonically the comparison is valid, Molina's ardent, soul-searching lyrics are more aptly compared to Neil Young or Leonard Cohen."
Concerning Pyramid Electric Co., Molina's 2006 first full-length solo album, one critic says "The delivery is too matter-of-fact, too genuine to evoke pity or sadness. It is lethargic, yet not dreary, it grabs you violently and lays you down so, so gently."
